Blog #8

I think the theme in this movie is that life is full of surprises and opportunities. The reason that this scene perfect expresses that theme is for the most famous quote in the movie - "life is like a box of chocolates, you'll never know what you'll get."

Well out of the five movement doesn’t play much of a factor because it’s a scene between two stationary people. Space and rhythm would also be tough to critique from this clip, so I will go over line and shape.
First with line I feel like the use of line wasn’t used in this scene. It doesn’t appear that there are any lines in the scene that make my point of interest the characters. Like showed in the power point there are lines that are specifically placed to help the point of interest towards the main characters, but in the scene there was nothing like that.
The shapes also didn’t seem to have much of an impact on this scene. From what I know of shapes and how they work in media, this scene seems to not use shape at all. Forrest has more of a square head and his mom has a circular head but I really don’t think that it attributes to the film.
Overall I really didn’t see how any of these things added to the movie.

The two photos that I have chosen for the blog assignment are both from the same show, Rocket Power.  I chose these photos because they both compare and contrast in different animation aspects. Along with that, Rocket Power used to be my favorite show as a kid.
First I would like to start with the color between the two photos. Photo number one has a split complementary scheme using 3 different hues. The hues that I believed are used are red, blue, and yellow. The reason that I think this is because every color that is in this picture fits into those 3 hues on the color wheel. You have the different saturations of red involving the helmets, gloves, pants, and objects in the background. This goes for the same with the yellow saturation. The texture of the 3 boys skin, the sky, the house, and their clothing reflect different saturations of yellow. Blue also has different saturations with clothing and objects in the picture.
The first picture though is greatly different than the second picture. The hues used in the second picture are on an analogous color scheme. The colors used in the picture are orange, red, and purple. The saturations are also different in this picture cause the colors are more saturated and darker in a way that make the objects stick out more.
The lighting between the two pictures is also different. In the first picture the lighting seems to pull the attention to the reactions on the boys faces. It is clear that they are disgusted about something that is going on. In the other picture shadows are used to kind of block out the background and mainly keep your focus on the two characters. The lighting in the first picture kind of gives the mood a very salty or crappy mood. The lighting makes the scene look gloomy and disappointing. While in the other pictures mood is very bright and happy because the lighting is mainly on bright colors.

The scene that I choose in blog three is a minute and thirty-six second scene when Forrest is talking to an African American lady at a bus stop. This scene is when the infamous life is like a box of chocolate quote occurs. Looking at what I had to do for the assignment and this scene though was a little tough to do. This scene is one constant push and a slow ped down from an extreme wide angle shot to a close up of Forrest. The director though does follow the rules that we learned in class though.
First looking at the 180 degree rule the director does follow this rule. Even though that it is one constant push the director makes a set line from the opening scene and never crosses it or breaks the line.  Which shows that he followed the 180-degree rule properly.
The rule of thirds was also followed properly by the director in this scene. From the beginning of the push and ped to the end the director keeps the rule of thirds used in its entirety. The director keeps what the eye is most attracted to at its proper places on the screen the entire time.
Well since this scene was one constant push and ped from an extreme wide angle to a close up on the main character the 30 rule including both 30% or 30 degree rule wasn’t really in effect in this scene. I’m not saying that he broke it or didn’t follow it, but since the scene had no cuts or different camera angles the 30 rule was never used.
Looking over all three of the rules the director did a great job following them. Even though the scene didn’t really need to use the rules because it was one constant push and ped the director still followed the rules well.

First-Mean, Taylor Swift
Second- Mean Planes Taylor Gangs, Wiz Khalifa

For this blog assisnment I decided to pick two songs that included artists that I really like. The first one is Mean by Taylor swift, and the second one is a mash up between Mean and Wiz Khalifas song Planes and Taylor Gangs. The title of it is Mean Planes and Taylor Gangs. The reason that I wanted to use these two songs is because they include my favorite artists, also the two songs are very easy to compare and contrast.
For listening phase one the tempo between the two songs differed. Taylor Swifts song Mean had more of a medium tempo to it. It never was really slow nor did it get fast. The mash up song was a different story though. The tempo of Mean Planes and Taylor Gangs had more of faster tempo. This is because of Wiz Khalifas song was more upbeat and quicker.  The sources between the two songs differ between which song your listening to. Mean by Taylor Swift was her voice, the banjo, and the clapping that kind of kept the rhythm. On the other hand Wiz Khalifas song source depended on what was playing. This is because it also included Mean by Taylor Swift. The overall source of his song was his drum kit beat he had throughout the song. But when her part came in the song it was her songs source that drove the song. But other then that Wiz Khalifas rapping aslso adds to the source.  The groove between the two songs were a little different. Taylor Swift song was more poppy, fun, light, and folk. Wiz song was also poppy but it had pulse, and it was unique.
Listening phase two also had similarities and differences.  For instrumentation in Taylors song I would say its mainly the banjo driving the song. In Wiz song the beat made by a drum kit is what drives the song.  The structure/organization between the two songs were very well organized and easy to follow. Both songs typically went intro/verse/chorus/verse and so on throughout the song. The emotional architecture was a little different though. In Taylors song it seemed to grow more and more as the song went on. In Wiz song I would say it was pretty much the same throughout the song.
Listening Phase three were pretty similar between the two. Height was the same, width had some panning in Taylors song but not Wiz. The depth were similar since in Wiz song it had the same depth used in Taylors song.
In the end I would say that I like Wiz version of the song better. I think this because it gave a great song a reason to like it even more. It added uniqueness and its fun to listen to.

The movie scene that I chose to do my blog assignment was Forrest Gump. The reason that I chose to use this movie is because throughout the movie the sounds always make an impact on the scenes. The scene I chose uses listening modes very well. From beginning to end the scene I chose used great casual sound. One huge one was in the entire scene you could hear birds chirping which enhanced the effect that they were outside. Semantic sound in the scene could be the airplane that you here in the background while Forrest is talking to the lady at the bus stop.  When looking at space with this movie you can first look at size, distance, and perception. In this scene all are pretty basic since it is two people sitting on a bench talking to each other. There are a few sounds in background but those are flat sounds. The subjective and emotional sound in the scene kind of helps you feel like you can place yourself in the scene. The sounds are very natural and simple which helps the audience place themselves in the scene to help add to the effect. Forrest Gump uses both space and listening modes very well in this movie.

1.
Connect: We have a great connection with the rest of the world, but if all we’re doing is using this connection to see how big our online footprint is then we’re using it all wrong. By taking advantage of what we have by being creative and then spreading it over this connection with the rest of the world, the chance of people wanting to seek you and your creativity becomes greater.
Make Art: Make Art talks about how art is based on the self and interaction with others. It isn’t following any rules or codes. It’s all created by whatever you think it is. Making art is taking risks to make something that is new or changes everything.
Ship: Shipping is to be able to do things, finish things, and getting things to people who want it. Some are afraid to ship because of possible failure. But if you ship and are successful at it you become the one who can’t be lived without.

2. All of the layers that I read along with the three I summarized above are all connected to the blog that you are having us create this quarter. To start we can look at the first layer, which is connect. Since these blogs are on the Internet this means that anyone in the world can see them. With that in mind, if the blogs that we create are interesting and creative then people may enjoy reading them. If more and more people enjoy your blogs then someone possibly may come to you with an opportunity of a lifetime due to your creativity. These blogs also help us make art because a lot of the times we communicate with our other classmates, which helps add to the art making process of these blogs. Besides the fact we have to follow certain things on the grading criteria these blogs are like a blank canvas for us to make whatever we want to, and hopefully by doing that it is either new or changes things.  Creating these blogs is also connected with the ship layer. The reason for this is because to ship is being able to do things, finish things, and then getting those things to people who want them. The final out come of all of this is that you become someone who people cant live without. This is connected to the blogs that we are creating because by doing these blogs they follow the steps of shipping. We start the blogs, finish them, and then people who follow the blogs can read them to see what you have to say. Even though this may seem minimal it can attribute to any future creative projects that we embark on in the future. This blog is just practice and preparing us for the future when we may need to ship. After the blogs and projects that I have so far done and the ones that are in the next couple weeks, I do think that these exercises help make us better at all of these layers. Along with that they also helps us become a better artist, person, student, etc. The reason for this is because all of these exercises you are having us do makes us use all of these characteristics as a person and the layers that were talked about in the article “Brainwashed.” They are making us make art, connect to the world, get over our lizard. To learn how to be a successful shipper, learn to fail and still get back up and to learn. All these blogs and projects exercise all of these! In the end I do believe that these exercises are making me a better artist, person, student and all of the above.

1. The story in Flaums article is about a wolf named Mumon. Mumon is one of few red wolves left in the wild. After being captured and released back in the wild for an experiment Mumon and the other wolves realize they’ve forgotten how to howl. Mumon goes on a journey to find his howl to save himself and the wolf pack. He goes through multiple obstacles to get his howl back. At the end of the journey Mumon gets it back. Flaums point in this story is that in order to get what we want or need we have to pay a price and do things that we may not want to.

2.

When thinking of my favorite quote, poem, lyric, paragraph or story I cannot seem to pick one in particular that is my favorite. So to some this may not count or may be cheating but I am going to have to say that one of my favorite pieces that speaks to me as a person is the movie Forest Gumpp. There are many Situations and stories in Forest Gumpp that speak to me as a creative person and attributes to some of the work that I do. Also, the quotes in the movie add to my creative self as well.
To some the movie Forest Gumpp may not seem like a logical piece of work that speaks to my creative self, but in reality it really does. There are multiple things that can be taken from this movie that can add to my creative self. First I would like to focus on the many situations that Forrest goes through, and paired with that, the stories that he tells throughout the movie. Forrest does many things in his life and is put through many situations that can be relatable in many different ways. Even though I know that the movie isn’t based on a real life story, there is much to be taken from the lessons taught by these stories and situations. Love, strength, happiness, sadness, the list goes on! All of these things add to my creative self and give me inspirations for some of the things that I like to write about or talk about.
The second thing that can be taken from Forest Gumpp to add to my creative self is all of the quotes. To me Forest Gumpp is one of the most quote rich movies ever. There are multiple quotes from this movie that are said by people every day. Some of these include, “life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what your gonna get” and “stupid is as stupid does.” These are only a few of the quotes that can be taken from this movie to add to the creative self. Whenever I watch this movie I also seem to find new quote each time which adds to my self creativity. Focusing more on the quotes beyond the fact that they help with the creative person, they are also a way of motivation and inspiration. Some of the quotes from this film can be used to help in any kind of situation.
I know that the assignment said to choose a favorite quote, poem, lyric, paragraph and so on. But I feel that the choice of this movie is just as good as any of those, especially the movie that I chose. This movie adds to a lot of my creative self with the stories and situations throughout the entire movie and the quotes that are said from the numerous characters. The motivation and inspiration that I get from this movie adds to my creative self more then any lyric or single quote ever could.

Mr. Invincible
Mr. Invincible colors are gold and silver for multiple reasons. First, gold is the color of belief. Gold is also associated with faith, which can attribute to how much the people he protects have faith in him to protect them. While on the other hand silver is known to be the color of strength. Strength is something that is very important to have when protecting people. When combined, gold and silver can be extremely intimidating for the villain but for the people he protects it will send them a strong message of protection. Along with that gold and silver combined is a very sleek combo.

The picture I have chosen to explain the light of Mr. Invincible has a lot of meaning to it. In the picture, the sun shining through the clouds over a city. Now this goes with how Mr. Invincible is to the city that he protects. He brings brightness and warmth amongst the people of city because the city knows that they are safe under his protection. Also, like the sunrays in the picture, Mr. Invincible covers the entire city with his surveillance and protection. It shows that he is everywhere no matter what to protect the city.

A comet is the perfect shape for Mr. Invincible. The first reason for this is because Mr. Invincible can fly, and when he does fly it is so fast that he looks like a bright light shooting across the sky. Second, a comet can cover a great distance in little time. This relates to Mr. Invincible and how he protects his city. He can keep surveillance over the large city well because of how fast he is. Last, when people see a comet or a shooting star they get excited and happy. Now this also applies to Mr. Invincible because whenever the city people see him they become happy and enlightened to see him.

The Dark Flame
The picture I have chosen for The Dark Flames colors include all three of the colors that he is. First I will start with the black background. Black is obviously known for darkness, evil comes from darkness. This helps show how The Dark Flame is evil and likes darkness. Now even though I know fire isn’t a color, the colors in the fireball help explain the colors of The Dark Flame. First red is the sign of danger and war, which The Dark Flame loves. The dark orange in the picture attributes to the act of being mean and showing distrust.

This picture of light is very similar to the picture I chose for Mr. Invincible but there is a huge difference. This picture shows the darkness over the city, the darkness that The Dark Flame creates. The main color of The Dark Flame is black, which is a dark color, which adds to who he is as a character, dark. He is the villain and is extremely evil, so when darkness overcomes the city this is when he does his works of evil because it is when he can come out and create his chaos of darkness.

There are many reasons that this picture best suits The Dark Flames shape. First since it is The Dark Flame he takes shape of fire. Along with that the picture can also add to the inner state of The Dark Flame. Due to who he is and the darkness that engulfs him he has a point where he cant become so enraged that he explodes into a fiery explosion which then he begins to create his dark chaos amongst the city. The background also helps to the shape of him since his shape is fire but it is also dark.
